Tipping.

A tip of 15%- 20% is customary, however certain Hotels and restaurants add in a service charge. Taxi drivers do expect a small tip or round off on their earnings.

Lingo in the Caribbean.

 

There are six official languages spoken in the Caribbean and many more unofficial languages. Among the official languages are Dutch, English, French, Haitian Creole, Papiamentu, and Spanish. However you will hear a mix of English and Creole called Caribbean English

General lingo.

 

wah gwaan = What’s going on?

weh yuh deh pon = What are you upto?

mi deh yah = I’m doing ok

puppa jeezas/ puppa gawd = phrase when something catches you off guard

earthstrong = birthday

Eating out/ shopping lingo.

 

Yuh ready to nyam? = to eat or consume food

Bun = refers to feeling heartburn or indigestion after eating, especially spicy food

Cheese on bread! = Oh my goodness!

 
 

Transport to the Caribbean Islands.

 

There are direct flights into each of the Islands from many European and American cities.

Taxi.

Depending on which Island you land in, taxis can be easily found outside the Airport terminals that will take you to your Hotel.

 

Ferry.

If you wish to cross between the Islands there is an efficient Ferry system that can be booked depending on your schedule.

 

Best time to travel.

 

Fall season which is from February to May as these are the driest months.
