Lisbon is the stunning capital city of Portugal, known for its historic architecture, beautiful beaches, and delicious cuisine. This charming city is built on seven hills, giving it a unique and picturesque landscape that visitors will love. It is the second oldest city in Europe yet one that is still praised for its entertainment and nightlife. Lisbon is also known for its delicious cuisine, with a wide variety of seafood dishes, pastries, and wines on offer, star class accommodation and some really hip nightclubs. Be prepared for an action packed and enriching experience when spending a weekend in Lisbon.

Tipping.

Restaurants and bars- Tipping 5% – 10% in restaurants is standard, although tipping should only be provided with the chance that you are extremely happy with the service-

Taxi - Tipping is not necessary, but you can round the fare to the nearest 5 or 10 euros.

Hotels- You can give bellhops €1 for each bag carried to your room, and leave €1 per night for housekeeping staff who tidy up after you.

Lingo in Lisbon.

 

Portuguese is the local language while in Lisbon, however many can speak fluent english. When not in the touristy places however it provides an advantage to known at least a bit of the local lingo. So lucky for you, we got you covered. Here’s a couple phrases to help you get by.

General lingo.

 

Bom dia. = Good morning

Boa tarde.= Good afternoon

Boa noite. = Good night/ evening

Muito obrigada/o.= Thank you very much

Por favor= Please

Olá = Hello

Eating out/ shopping lingo.

 

Você fala inglês?= Do you speak English?

Estação de metrô = Subway Station

Quanto? = How much is this?

Saúde! = Cheers! (when toasting drinks)

A conta, por favor.= Check, please!

A comida estava excelente! = The food was excellent

Que bonita(o) está hoje. = You look good today

Você tem um ótimo senso de humor! = You have a great sense of humor!

Você me faz feliz.= You make me happy

Eu só tenho olhos para você.= I only have eyes for you

 
 

Transport from Lisbon Airport.

 

There are 4 ways to get from Airport to Lisbon- by Metro, bus, taxi and train

Metro.

The Lisbon Airport has a Metro (subway) station with a direct line to the city centre. The 'Aeroporto – Saldanha' line takes you to downtown Lisbon in about 20 minutes. The Metro network will allow you to move around the city at ease

 

Taxi.

Taxis are frequently available outside the terminals of the Airport, they are convenient and one of the easiest mode of getting to the city.


Bus.

Several bus lines stop at the airport arrivals terminal, taking you to different parts of the city. However there is a restriction on pieces of baggage.

Train.

 10 minutes away by Metro and a bit longer by bus, you can get to Gare do Oriente, the main train station in Lisbon, where you can take trains to all parts of the country. You can also get there by taxi.

 

Best time to travel.

 

The best time to visit Lisbon is either from March to May or September to October, because the weather is still warm
